SpheroX – high material removal rate meets maximum shape accuracy
The new SpheroX brings more productivity to HSC roughing and finishing processes. It delivers high stock removal rates and maximum shape accuracy in stainless steels, cobalt-chromium and titanium alloys – even for complex 3D shapes in medical technology (e.g. implants and bone splints made of titanium) as well as for instruments and components made of high-alloy stainless steels. SpheroX is, therefore, the solution for the highly efficient production of 3D molds, with universality across all HSC strategies and with high metal removal rates.
The advantages
Highly efficient production of 3D molds from stainless steels, cobalt-chromium and titanium alloys
Reliable use, including for autonomous processes
Increased service life thanks to wear-resistant DURO-SE high-performance coating
All-rounder – top results with all HSC strategies
Four-edged tool with large chip spaces for high cutting volume
Two length versions: normal and medium length version
Technologies
A tight tolerance ball radius (± 0.005 mm) ensures maximum shape accuracy. Four cutting edges enable high feed rates with smooth operation. The new DURO-SE coating reduces wear and maintains its shape over the entire service life. Compared to double-edged ball nose end mills, the increased number of cutting edges enables up to 50 % higher metal removal rate for a stable, low-vibration process.
SpheroX is based on the carbide HM XT and the new wear-resistant DURO-SE coating. This stabilizes the cutting edge, reduces micro chipping and minimizes built-up edges, giving consistent surface quality and high dimensional accuracy.
The geometry with four cutting edges enables smooth operation, high metal removal rates and excellent surface finishes in titanium and stainless steels.
The result: highly accurate and reproducible functional surfaces.
Uncompromising accuracy for high-precision components made of stainless steels, cobalt-chromium and titanium alloys
Components for medical technology, such as implants and bone splints made of titanium and stainless steel, place the highest demands on dimensional accuracy, surface quality and freedom from burrs. At the same time, these materials are demanding: titanium conducts heat poorly, favors built-up edges and accelerates tool wear. Complex 3D contours in the aerospace industry require constant tool loading and reliable chip removal. There are also strict documentation and quality requirements: biocompatibility, validated processes and complete traceability must be verifiably integrated. Many functional surfaces also require very low roughness.
The solution is a tool that minimizes built-up edges, stabilizes the cutting edge and runs with low vibration. This is exactly where the new SpheroX comes into play.
