E-Cut Compact – when the machine is small but the demands are high

Where installation space, tool holders, and system rigidity are limited, stability determines dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and process reliability. For this purpose, the proven E-Cut series has been further developed: FRAISA E-Cut Compact with a short-shank is the milling system for compact milling machines and small tool clamping devices – process-reliable, energy-efficient, robust, and easy to cut.

You can achieve reproducible quality with minimal vibration and high process reliability, with a focus on dimensional accuracy and surface quality. At the same time, you reduce rework because burr/brow formation is minimized. Thanks to the cutting data developed in FRAISA ToolExpert®, you can quickly make E-Cut Compact ready for series production via plug-and-play parameters, even in autonomous operation.

Areas of Application

The compact design ensures maximum rigidity and a quickly adjustable projection length. Optimized geometry combined with the new DURO-SE coating enables long tool life with consistently excellent surface quality. E-Cut Compact is designed for specific tasks with z3/z4 (small Ø also with 4 mm shank) – z3 for high metal removal rates, and z4 for universal applications and finishing operations.

E-Cut Compact is suitable for stainless steel, titanium, and other non-ferrous metals— especially in medical technology, machine building, and watch making industries as well as for small clamping systems such as PG10/15, ER8, or ER11. E-Cut Compact covers HPC machining with large radial (ae) and variable axial (ap) depths of cut as well as finishing, plunging, ramping, and full grooving applications.

E-Cut Compact for medical engineering: Process -reliable milling in stainless steel and titanium – for implant quality

In medical engineering, highly specialized materials are used for implants that must meet the highest requirements: biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and durability. When milling these materials, high cutting forces, heat peaks (especially with titanium), built-up edges, and burr formation encounter the narrowest tolerances – a challenge for dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

Thanks to its well-coordinated geometry and the particularly wear-resistant high-performance coating layer DURO-SE, the E-Cut Compact masters machining of these workpiece materials with flying colors. The milling loads that occur are optimally distributed, for precise, stable, and reliable machining and chip removal from materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and titanium alloys.

Depending on the requirements, E-Cut Compact milling cutters are available with three or four cutting edges:

  • For machining with high material removal rates, the three-flute cutter with large chip spaces achieves high material removal rates with controlled chip formation during slot milling.
  • For universal applications, the four-flute cutter offers even force distribution and high stiffness / inflexibility for economical ramping and plunging strategies and achieves consistently excellent surface qualities during finishing.

E-Cut Compact for the watch industry: Brilliant surfaces in lead-free brass alloys

Building on many years of expertise in the watch industry, FRAISA is continuously developing the E-Cut product family, with a focus on miniaturization, stricter surface requirements, and lead-free alloys.
The short, optimally dimensioned shaft design of the E-Cut Compact line enables a precisely adjusted overhang length and ensures maximum stability and high process reliability. The new 4 mm shank diameter is ideally matched to the machine concepts of the watch industry.

During development, the machining of lead-free brass alloys was intensively validated. In combination with the high-performance DURO-SE coating, E-Cut Compact achieves excellent tool life and impressive surface qualities.
The assortment is complemented by a 90° corner design with special tooth grinding, which offers exceptionally high wear resistance despite its sharp cutting edge.
This results in brilliant surfaces, high dimensional accuracy, and reliable fulfillment of the high requirements of the watch industry.
