Sphericut – the powerful all-rounder for tool and mold making
[2] Experience the Sphericut in action. Sphericut for 3D machining – reliable processes for roughing, finishing and fine finishing Sphericut brings process reliability and speed to 3D machining – in high-strength and hardened steels up to 60 HRC, stainless steels and titanium alloys. These materials are demanding, causing abrasive wear, cutting edge chipping (hardened steels), and work hardening with a tendency to build-up (stainless steels) and often with low thermal conductivity (titanium). This is exactly what Sphericut was developed for. The coordinated combination of tool geometry, carbide substrate HM XT and X-AL coating delivers long tool life and maximum process reliability – from roughing and finishing to fine finishing. The active cross-cutting edge and the extremely stable core enable reliable HSC strategies and safe machining of complex geometries as well as smooth processes and consistently high-quality surfaces. For a fast, reliable start, Sphericut is supported directly in the FRAISA ToolExpert® application. Optimized and plug-and-play cutting data can be determined for every strategy and every material, even in semi-autonomous or fully autonomous production. The result: shorter machining times, repro- ducible surface qualities, reduced burr formation and high dimensional and shape accuracy, which are ideal for the demanding component geometries in tool and mold making. The advantages Increased productivity – HSC roughing with high chip rate and reliable chip evacuation Maximum flexibility – roughing, finishing, and fine finishing with one system Long service life and process reliability – robust against abrasive wear and adhesion Wide range of materials – simple warehousing, fewer articles Consistent surface quality – stable 3D finishing processes on free-form surfaces Lower tool and set-up costs Higher machine availability
[3] Less chipping during roughing operations – greater process reliability Reliable chip removal – greater process stability and better dimensional accuracy Longer tool life, thanks to the toughness and hardness of the cutting material Sustainable service offers with FRAISA ReTool®Services Less wear and consistent surface quality, thanks to resistant coating Perfect application data in the FRAISA ToolExpert® Technologies HM substrate HM XT Ideal cutting design, especially for face finishing Ball tolerance +/-0.01 Proven face cutting geometry due to active cross-cutting edge X-AL coating Impressive wear properties of the new Sphericut After 120 minutes of use in hardened hot-work tool steel (1.2343), 54 HRC Vceff 111 m/min, fz 0.086 mm, ap 0.72 mm, ae 1.2 mm, n 9,060 min-1, vf 1,558 mm/min, Q 11.35 cm3/min Sphericut (Ø 6 mm, 3xd) Conventional milling cutter Local failure of the carbide
[4] δ Sa Sb Sc Active cross-cutting edge – stable in the center, providing high surface quality The tool center is the most critical zone in 3D machining, where the effective cutting speed drops to almost zero. Conventional ball nose end mills tend to break out in the center. Sphericut starts right there. An active cross- cutting edge and stable center geometry effectively prevent center breakouts. The process is calm and controlled – right from the start. This reduces micro chipping and ensures even surfaces, especially in flat areas and transitions where the tool center inevitably comes into contact. Chip formation also remains stable: the stable face geometry supports 3D roughing and finishing and ensures reliable chip formation, even in challenging materials. At the same time, the active cross-cutting edge smooths the surface and stabilizes the tool center. Your advantages with HSC 3D strategies: Higher surface quality Precise and reproducible sizing results Consistently high dimensional accuracy More on our website! Discover more exciting details online about the Sphericut, including additional information on the active cross-cutting edge, which stabilizes the tool center and supports a uniform surface quality. Cross-cutting edge
[5] The active cross-cutting edge shows its strengths when the tool center is frequently engaged – for example when roughing and finishing floor areas. The result: high-quality surface finishes, especially on floor surfaces – even in high-strength, hardened or adhesive materials. The component shown here demonstrates how evenly free-form surfaces can be machined and how stable the process remains even in complex geometries. For a quick, safe start, FRAISA ToolExpert® supplies the appropriate cutting data: developed in numerous tests and validated for various applications – for fast and safe implementation, even in autonomous operation. Smooth surfaces with excellent wear properties Perfect results in the component – low-vibration processes and reproducible free-form surfaces Surface quality Ra 0.590 with a conventional milling cutter Surface quality Ra 0.306 with the new Sphericut After 120 minutes of use in hardened hot-work tool steel (1.2343), 54 HRC
